Is this the best LEGO set for theme park fans?

This might just be my new favorite building set and I stumbled upon it by accident. I was on the hunt for a special Christmas gift for my 11-year-old son,  an avid and experienced LEGO builder. We’d already conquered the LEGO Loop coaster and the CDX Sidewinder sets and was wondering what was next. I searched for “most challenging LEGO sets to build” and found this awesome looking working bumper car set.

Now to be clear, this is NOT an official LEGO set. I believe it is made by ExultationToy in China. It is, however, LEGO compatible and the look and feel of most parts were very close to LEGO bricks.

Bumper Car Set Pros

The attention to detail is incredible—everything from the twinkling lights and rubber side bumpers to the control panels and ticket booths adds to the realistic amusement park vibe.

My son and I were both blown away by how immersive it felt.

Best of all, the bumper cars actually work! There’s a clever gear and chain system hidden beneath the floor. Little magnets attached to the chain and embedded in the cars drive them around. Watching them zip and bump around is pure magic.

Bumper Car Set Cons

That said, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. The set comes with a motor, which is awesome, but it is VERY loud (see video below).

The colors in the instruction booklet didn’t always match the actual bricks, which made a few steps trickier than expected.

Also, the bricks have a slightly tighter fit than traditional LEGO bricks, requiring a bit more effort to snap them together.

Bumper Car Set Final Thoughts and Verdict

Maybe the most impressive thing about this set was the cost. I picked it up for only $59.99! With 1,840 pieces, that comes out to only ~$0.03 cents per piece. The average official LEGO piece price is around 10 or 11 cents. LEGO is going to have some serious competition on their hands if their competitors continue to produce high quality sets at a cheaper cost.

I’ll admit, I was hesitant to try a non-LEGO building set, but this one completely exceeded my expectations. In fact, it ended up surpassing many official LEGO sets we’ve built in terms of fun and final presentation. It’s one of the best-looking sets we’ve ever completed, and the build was an absolute blast. I totally recommend this to any experienced builder looking for a unique challenge!
