Six Flags Great Adventure has introduced an electrifying new addition to its lineup with The Flash: Vertical Velocity, the first Vekoma Super Boomerang coaster in North America. This high-energy ride, themed around the speedster of the DC Comics, delivers an thrilling and dynamic experience that coaster enthusiasts and the general public will thoroughly enjoy. The Flash boasts multiple outstanding statistics: a height of 172 feet, max speed of 60 MPH, 7 launch moments, 4 inversions, and 10 airtime elements.
The Flash’s proximity to the front entrance is a huge plus, especially for those looking for their first, as well as last, rides of the day as they make their way in and out of the park. Located near Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, The Flash is a stone throw’s away from the park’s main path. As you approach The Flash, the striking red and yellow color scheme and comic book inspired theming immediately sets the stage for a high-speed adventure. The ride utilizes a unique swing launch system, propelling riders forward and backward before hitting full speed and climbing the 90-degree vertical spike.
The acceleration is where this coaster truly shines. The first few launches tease the top speed before finally catapulting riders through the main layout. The airtime on the twisted spike is surprising, especially in the back row, while the inverted stall provides a disorienting yet exhilarating hang time moment.
The pacing is relentless, and while the ride is relatively short, it packs plenty of thrills into a compact footprint. The launch sequence, combined with the forward and backward motion, makes for a ride experience that’s both unpredictable and forceful.
Unlike some of Six Flags Great Adventure’s more aggressive coasters such as El Toro, The Flash: Vertical Velocity remains relatively smooth throughout, with comfortable restraints that allow for a more enjoyable ride. The lack of over-the-shoulder restraints means no head-banging, making it an easy ride to marathon for those who love intense launches.
However, the ride’s shuttle coaster nature – with just one train – makes for a limited overall capacity, which could result in longer waits on busier days. If you want to get multiple rides in, we recommend visiting the coaster earlier in the day or utilizing a Flash Pass as your best bets to experience this new coaster. The park chose to implement a double sided locker system at the start of the queue which should only help with moving the crowds through the entire experience.
The Flash: Vertical Velocity is a fantastic addition to Six Flags Great Adventure, offering an intense, high-speed experience that fills a unique niche in the park’s already impressive coaster lineup. While it may not be the longest ride, its powerful launches, airtime moments, and inversions make it one of the most thrilling coasters in the park.
For coaster fans looking for a fast-paced, high-intensity thrill, The Flash: Vertical Velocity is a must-ride. It may not be the biggest coaster at Great Adventure, but it certainly lives up to its namesake—blazing fast and packed with energy.
