Holidays in the Sky drone show is back with more drones and now audience participation. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana was one of the first theme parks to utilize drones for nightly performances. Holidays in the Sky debuted in 2022 with 300 drones. One hundred drones were added for 2023. Now, in 2024, the total number of drones is up to 500! And that’s not all that’s new…
A new segment in the show for summer 2024 uses audience participation. Guests can vote by phone using QR codes found throughout the park for which Holiday World mascot they want to view in the performance. We got the eagle – it was the Fourth of July so you basically had to vote for the patriotic one (right?!).
Some of the formations in the show are as wide as 700 feet and as tall as 400 feet. Pictures simply don’t do it justice.
I’ve not seen many drone shows in person as of yet, but of the ones I’ve seen I have to say Holidays in the Sky is my favorite. I was surprised at how close the drones appeared to be flying over us and how large the animations were.
Light the Night, a family-friendly DJ and dance party take place in the Party Plaza before the show and really get the crowd excited. Holiday World also offers special dessert party packages.
The show is around 15 minutes long – limited by the flight time of the drones which I’ve heard is around 22 minutes.
Where to watch the Holidays in the Sky drone show? The Party Plaza and seating areas are near where the ill-placed Hyena Falls water slides used to be. You can still see them in the Google Maps aerial image below:
Basically, you want to have your back to Thunderbird to see the show.
The only bad thing about the show is when it ends. There’s only one way out of the Party Plaza and it’s located at the very back of the park. Oh, and the park and all the rides are now closed for the night so everyone has to leave at the same time.

More and more theme parks are using drones in their night time shows. Don’t miss Shane’s recent review of Universal Orlando’s newest nighttime show, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular.
