Universal Orlando’s second Epic Universe hotel is now open. Terra Luna is the sister hotel to Stella Nova (which we reviewed back in January) and just opened on March 25th.
Terra Luna is “inspired by the thrill of exploring the unknown and pushing the limits of discovery.” Terra Luna is categorized by Universal as a Prime Value Resort, with room nights typically ranging from $130 to $180 per night. Much like Stella Nova, Terra Luna has over 140,000 colored shiny tiles on the outside, reflecting the sunlight and changing colors.
The Rooms
Terra Luna has two room types: Standard rooms and Pool View rooms, with both having accessibility options as well. Both categories offer 2 queen beds and a small couch, and our Standard view room came with a great view looking directly at Epic Universe.
This isn’t guaranteed with every room, but the whole front side of the resort faces the park so you’ll have a good chance of having that view if you stay here.
The rooms here are almost identical to Stella Nova, which is good because I liked those quite a bit and these are just as good. I love that these rooms have couches, usually you won’t find that in a room of this price. The room also has a large amount of space, it doesn’t feel small and there is plenty of room for luggage and storage.
The bathroom has a separated sink, and has a small wall separating it from the bed area. The decor in the room has a large moon/planet type mural over the beds, and the couch and decorative pillows give some pops of color to the room. The in-room TV also has options for streaming, and the basic wi-fi is included with your room.
Lobby and Gift Shop
The lobby at Terra Luna is very modern, with some cool lighting features in and around the checkin desks.
Overall, I found the aesthetic and design of Terra Luna to be a little more interesting than Stella Nova.
There were more natural elements like wood and green foliage to liven the space up.
There is a Universal Studios Store in the lobby as well, entirely based on Epic Universe properties with some sundries like swim gear and medicine available as well.
The outdoor pool area is also very nice, and has mobile ordering from the poolside restaurant available right from your pool chair.
Overall, it’s just a nice place to hang out in and the ambience is nice and relaxing.
The Food
Omega Cafe and Market is the only proper restaurant at Terra Luna, there is also a poolside restaurant and small market area, but Omega is the only dedicated dining area with tables and chairs. The food is all quick service and is made to order. I thought it was all reasonably priced, around $15-$20 per item.
The food at Terra Luna was very good, I tried one thing from each menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, I had the Celestial Breakfast, which came with a biscuit, potato wedges, bacon and eggs. Everything was exactly what I thought it would be, with the potato wedges being the standout. The eggs were the only thing that I did not think was very good, they weren’t very flavorful and had a weird texture.
However, the Space Monkey, which is a monkey bread, was incredible. It was warm, sweet and also was a good amount of food, I could’ve only eaten this and been fine for the morning.
Lunch was very good, I had the Hot Honey Chicken Pizza. It was different than the in-room pizza delivery and had a nice crust and a good amount of slices, I took some back to the room and saved them for later.
For dinner, I had the chicken quesadilla, because I was curious if it was the same one as Stella Nova. It was, and it was just as delicious.
There is also a dessert pizza called the Moon Pizza, which is a small pizza crust topped with Nutella, marshmallow, strawberries and powdered sugar. Needless to say, this is very sweet and I am very glad I go this to share with other people. It was delicious though, and is a standout dessert for sure.
The Drinks
Terra Luna has two bars, the Luna Bar which is in the lobby, and the Moonrise Bar which is by the pool. The Moonrise Bar has souvenir cups that are included with the drink, and both drinks I had from there were delicious.
I got the Flows of Venus (vodka, watermelon, lemon juice and cream of coconut) and the Winds of Neptune (vodka, elderflower, blackberry and lemon). Both were very tasty and would be the perfect poolside drink.
The Luna Bar offers different drinks and a small seating area inside, just by the check-in desk. They are open until midnight, and are the latest drink option at the hotel, the others close at 10:00.
Other Terra Luna Resort Thoughts
- There is a fitness center here located near the main lobby, and has a lot of cardio machines as well as weight machines.
- The hotel was playing movies on a screen by the pool at night and recreation staff will be hosting other activities as well.
- Like other Universal hotels, Terra Luna has a texting service available to set up at check-in that allows you to text for any questions or requests, which is a really handy service for asking about hours or requesting towels and such.
- There is a walkway to Epic Universe, which is not open yet of course, but when the park opens this will be a great way to get to the park. There are also buses that will go to all three theme parks.
- The market is a grab-and-go option with to-go packaged foods and drinks.
- Terra Luna has in-room pizza delivery until midnight, like other Universal hotels.
Overall, Terra Luna is a fantastic option for a more budget-friendly hotel at Universal and I would not hesitate to stay here again. I would say my experience was almost identical to Stella Nova, with the slight edge going to Terra Luna for aesthetics alone. However, minor things aside, these resorts are almost the exact same. The walking path to Epic Universe is a great option to go to the park when it opens, and I’m go glad there are affordable resorts so close to the park.
