Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, ID announced on their “Silverwood Show” podcast that their wooden roller coaster, Tremors, will be receiving a “seismic upgrade” for the 2025 season.
Manufactured by Custom Coasters Inc and opening in 1999, Tremors has been one of the top-rated wooden roller coasters since its debut. This refurbishment will see Tremors receive 2 brand new Millennium Flyer trains from Great Coasters Inc to replace its single Philadelphia Toboggan Company train, giving it a greater capacity boost. These trains will have urethane or nylon wheels, depending on the season, to provide a nice, smooth, and mostly quiet ride across its classic layout.
For those that know, you might be wondering why it’s receiving a type of wheel that is generally reserved for steel roller coasters. New trains are not the only thing coming to Tremors, but the remaining wooden track will be replaced entirely by Rocky Mountain Construction’s 208 RetraK steel coaster track, making this a steel hybrid roller coaster. The existing Topper Track that was placed during previous refurbishments and the wooden support structure are to remain. Also to accommodate the new transfer track and storage for 2 train operation, Tremors ending will be extended by about 6 ft, making it 3164ft long after the refurbishment. Magnetic brakes will also be added, alongside new themed audio and safety spiels in the station, queue line, lift, and brake run.
Silverwood’s Director of Marketing and Entertainment, Jordan Carter, says, “Silverwood is committed to enhancing the guest experience, and we are thrilled to announce that this seismic upgrade on Tremors will give our guests more opportunities to enjoy an increased throughput and smoother ride for years to come.”

Tremors will also have a new, much more family friendly height requirement as well. What used to be the standard PTC height requirement of 48″ tall to ride or 42″ tall with an adult, it will now be 46″ tall to ride with the same 42″ tall minimum with an adult. And there will not be any seatbelts either!
You can give this new version of Tremors a ride when Silverwood will open for the 2025 season on May 3rd. You can visit https://www.silverwoodthemepark.com/ to get more info about operating hours, tickets, and season passes.
